“WHAT’S IN A NAME?” Shakespeare asked. “That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” How important is a name? Well, it can often tell as much.
GRACE reflects the key word of the Christian Faith. No other word, in fact, more epitomizes true, biblical Christianity than does this simple word. It is the unmerited favor of God toward man, manifested primarily through the person and work of Jesus Christ, apart from any merit or works of man. That is our emphasis at GBC, the message that salvation, from beginning to end and everything in between, comes by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
BIBLE regulates every aspect of the ministry at GBC, for Scripture alone is the only sufficient authority that exists in this world. In our postmodern day, everything is relative, open for “reinterpretation,” and “up for grabs.” The expository preaching and systematic teaching at GBC, along with its application for Christian living, is based squarely and solely on Scripture.
CHURCH recognizes the divinely ordained institution God founded. It is not to be a social gathering where “unchurched” people are drawn to be entertained, but rather where God’s born-again people meet for corporate worship, fellowship with each other, and are trained for life and service through the preaching of the Word of God. God designed the Church to be a place where the emphasis is not on programs but on a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ crucified, buried, risen, and coming again in glory.
